The Beginner Etsy Tool Stack: What You Need (and What Can Wait)
7 min read · Updated
New Etsy sellers often sign up for several tools at once and end up paying for features they never use. A better approach is to start with free tools, then add one paid tool at a time when a specific problem appears. Here's a simple, stage-based tool stack.
This guide mentions third-party tools. Some links on SellerFit AI are affiliate links, and we may earn a commission at no extra cost to you. Read our disclosure.
Start lean: one problem, one tool
Before adding any paid tool, ask two questions:
- What is the one thing holding my shop back right now (views, product ideas, profit, or design)?
- Will I use this tool every week to fix that problem?
If the answer to the second question is “not sure”, wait. Free tools and Etsy's own stats go a long way early on.
Stage 1: your first 10–20 listings
Focus on getting every listing right. Free tools are usually enough:
- Listing SEO: the free Etsy SEO Checker plus the Etsy SEO checklist.
- Pricing: the Etsy Fee Calculator for every new product.
- Performance: Etsy Stats, which show visits, favorites, and the search terms shoppers use.
Stage 2: first steady sales
Once you have a few sales and more listings, a single research tool can help. Choose based on your main problem:
- Low views: a keyword and tag research tool such as eRank or Sale Samurai.
- Not sure what to make next: a product research tool such as EverBee.
Not sure which? Read eRank vs EverBee or our guide to choosing an Etsy SEO tool.
Stage 3: a growing shop
- Tracking SEO over time: rank or keyword tracking (for example Koalanda or eRank) once you manage many listings.
- Costs and inventory: a tool like Craftybase if you make products by hand and need to track materials and true costs.
- Design work: a design platform such as Kittl or Creative Fabrica if you create many graphics or printable designs.
Review your stack every few months
If you sell print-on-demand
Print-on-demand sellers usually need one fulfillment platform from day one, plus profit checks on every product:
- Fulfillment: Printify (more provider choice and cost flexibility) or Printful (a more controlled fulfillment workflow). See Printify vs Printful.
- Profit: include the provider's base cost and shipping in the Etsy Fee Calculator before listing.
- Samples: order samples of your best sellers before scaling, to check print quality and delivery time.
Example stacks by budget
| Monthly budget | A sensible starting stack |
|---|---|
| $0 | SellerFit AI SEO Checker + Fee Calculator + Etsy Stats |
| Small budget | The free stack + one research tool matched to your main problem (check current pricing) |
| Growing shop | Research or tracking tool + cost tracking or design tool, added one at a time |
Tool pricing and plans change often, so check each tool's current pricing page before subscribing.
